Mc Arthur Foundation Commits $15 million to Create MDP

As the global need for well-trained and competitive professionals increases, having globally-competitive handiness can be a stepping stone to success. An excellent career education could boost up learning at the same time sharpen professional vocation.

To cope up with the sustainable development the world needs, Mc Arthur Foundation (Chicago) –a grant making institution provided universities worldwide with financial assistance of $15 million to create a Master’s in Development Practice.

With the integration of natural sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, health sciences, and management, the program assures a global standard training for practitioners regarding global current issues such as; climate change and poverty.

Twenty-two schools worldwide were granted such philanthropic opportunities worldwide; one of them is the Uniandes School of Management, Colombia. The rest were screened and selected based on world standards and different reviews. The program will provide practitioners with out of the classroom study of economics and management.

The universities awarded with the grant in establishing Master’s in Development Management are; BRAC University (Dhaka, Bangladesh), The Institute of Political Sciences (Sciences Po, Paris, France),

Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (Turrialba, Costa Rica), Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia), Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), University of California, Berkeley (US), University of California, Davis (US), University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka), University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada) and University of Winnipeg (Canada).

Basing on the five criteria accordingly; op university leadership, excellent infrastructure and academic programmes, the ability to serve as a regional hub; geographic representation among students and exceptional faculty across the four core competencies of natural, health, and social sciences and management; and a timeline and business plan for financial sustainability when funding ends in three years.
