Merced College Offers Additional 52 Online Courses

In the year 2006, Merced College offered only 52 online courses but a dramatic changed took over in 2008-2009 introducing up to 104 online courses offered. And tripled the number of online degree attendees in the fall of 2009.

This encouraged Merced College to offer additional online courses to satisfy the needs of busy education aspirants and working professionals to earn degrees without work interruption by attending traditional campuses through education online. In aid for the growing online learners and professionals who wants to upgrade their careers. The online programs will also benefit the rural communities and working mothers. Such programs are being approved by its board of trustees adding up courses in the Los Banos satellite campus and the virtual college.

Majors offered at the Los Banos satellite campus are anthropology, biotechnology, accounting, liberal studies, communications and business administration. Other course major includes Spanish, business, and real estate certificate program, social and behavioral science, and child development. Merced College pointed and emphasized that the online degree programs are still unavailable but has been given approval and will be offered in the future.

Administrators also warned that not all students are suitable for distance learning. Online education takes a lot of discipline and self motivation to cope up with online lessons. It will take hard work and dedication to have success because of many distractions on the web. Merced also points out the benefit of efficient time management in dealing with everyday works and schedules. Merced will has hybrid programs combining online and campus education.

Merced College will give notifications to the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (an accreditation committee) in order to have efficient quality control. The ACCJC is an organization of college educators which will monitor the college’s educational processes. Merced College will also secure from stepping on the district and the professors who design the education programs.
