Hindrances to Success in Online Education

Online education proved many benefits, from flexibility of schedules down to accessible online resources. It can’t be denied the advantage of online education even conquered age boundary enabling adults to earn degrees without sacrificing work and family time. But studying online may not be applicable to everyone and definitely it has a double-edge effect –negative and positive.

Studying online always means motivation and self discipline same as traditional classes. But counting the hindrances there could be online, regular evaluation and self motivation could be needed.

First drawback is the physical interaction between the student and the instructor. The difficulties on understanding visual information can be hindering the education progression of a student. The fact that gestures, facial actions, verbal cues and voice tones contribute to students development is lacking in an online class. Though students can communicate through electronic mail, deciphering visual text can be confusing.

Next, the lack of technical knowledge regarding the computer and its software programs also hinders learning. Anyone who tries online learning should be computer literate.

Technical problems like computer crash, slow internet connection, and document destroying viruses’ delays and devastate online education resources necessary for the online class. This may need back ups and help from local technicians.

Students will have bigger risk of procrastinating online class task such as studying lessons, making assignments, and projects. Though online classes provide flexibility for students, the responsibility of finishing a task is still a major factor for education success.

Isolation and lack of social contact is the nature of attending online classes. Though classmates can be accessed online, the need for actual and physical association is a basic need of man. Unlike traditional classes which held social contact activities such as Physical Education and day to day association with classmates.

Evaluating the drawbacks from attending and online class appears very challenging to those aspiring to earn a degree online. This means efficient self management, self discipline and self motivation to gain success with an online education.
